If the place you're studying in 2016 is San Sebastián, or if you're planning to visit this city in northern Spain during your year of study, you'll be able to enjoy a programme packed with activities and events to mark the city's designation as European Capital of Culture.

The multitude of cultural ideas are based on the idea of greater coexistence through dialogue and links with the rest of Europe. Peace, life and voices are the three cornerstones which serve as the basis for numerous cultural and leisure projects of all kinds.

The first, peace, advocates respect between peoples and includes ideas such as the creation of audiovisual works and film forums based on themes such as human dignity and reconciliation, documentaries in conflict zones, debates on religious issues and much more.

The activities under the heading of life seek to mitigate the problems of urban life by humanising our everyday routines, and include initiatives such as alternative light installations and other interventions in public spaces, a debate on the European Union, a laboratory on digital culture, a repair workshop, residences for artistic research, and ideas based on gastronomic creativity, among many others.

Voices acts as a showcase for disciplines such as music, theatre, literature and the plastic arts, and features concerts, encounters between students, ideas on linguistic diversity and exhibitions, among other actions.

San Sebastián 2016 has also launched a programme of financial aid to encourage initiatives by non-profit organisations and private citizens.

In short, a year full of art and knowledge in a beautiful and inviting city which in 2016 shares the role of European Capital of Culture with the Polish city of Breslau (Wroclaw).
