Daily schedules

It's quite possible that normal Spanish timetables aren't at all what you're used to in your own country. Here we give you a few pointers about Spanish habits so you'll know how to adapt your daily activities to suit your schedule:

Mealtimes

Breakfast is between about 7 am and 10 am (a full breakfast in Spain usually consists of coffee, orange juice and some toast or a pastry), lunch is between 2 and 4 pm (many students opt to have a daily set menu ("menú del día") in their university cafeteria), and dinner tends to be between 8:30 and 11 pm.

In any case the best idea is for you to arrange your mealtimes according to your class schedule.

Commercial opening hours

Most shops are open between 10 am and 2 pm and from 5 to 8 pm Monday to Saturday, although these times may be extended, particularly in summer, when shops often stay open until 10:30 pm.

Many shopping centres are open all day, Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 10 pm, and on the first Sunday of each month during the same hours. There are also shops which remain open round the clock.

Remember that many cities have unrestricted opening hours, so you may be able to do your shopping over a much wider time range.
